Mirrored Axis Distortion (MAD) Transform and Visualizations

\MAD Cover Image

Introduction

This webpage contrains vignettes for using the mirrored axis distortion of fold change (MAD-FC) transform for visualizing fold change data. MAD-FC is a transform that combines visualization properties of log and linear plots of fold change. MAD-FC maintains a linear scale for spattially mapping fold change data starting with a linear plot and then distorting negative fold change values to match the scale of positive fold change values. This strategy allows for a more intuitiuve summary of fold change datasets. We argue that MAD-FC plots may be a more useful visualization than log or linear plots for applications that do not require a high dynamic range (instances that require greater than 2.5 orders of magnitude or 8 units in log2 space).
